I wrote this just after my breakup with Alex...
The last rays of sun beat down upon the cold earth. There was no sound except for that of the branches of the trees sawing in the gentle breeze. Golden rays of sun shown through the branches, illuminating her bright green eyes, and the shimmer of her tear streaked cheeks. She sat watching the sky turn from pinks, to reds, to purples, to dark blues, then pitch black, as the sun set behind the tree laden hills.
Suddenly, she became aware of the the coldness that settled down upon her like a dark, thick cloak. As she tightly hugged her knees to her chest, birds fluttered angerly from their resting places, chirping rather loudly at her. She watches them fly away, dissapearing into the darkness until she can't see them anymore. As she watches then, they remind her of her shattered, hopeless dreams, fluttering away from her, just as her happiness and the life she once knew.
Staring up into the sky, sprinkled with stars like a cookie with sugar, she tightly grips the knife until her knuckles turn white. She takes a deep breath, and on exhale she silently curses thouse who didn't believe in her; as well as those who did. Taking another deep breath, she thrusts the knife into her stomach, forcing the breath from her body as pain scourches through her.
With one last tear in her eye, she asks the air, "What have I done, God?" As her world slowly and painfully blurs and fades in front of her, she thinks, "God, please forgive my sin..." Staring out to the sky, her last sight is rays of golden sunshine streaming over the kill onto her face. Her soul, locked forever inside the tree, forever smiles upon those who witness golden sunrises.
